RDA

My brother is 12, soon to take PSLE. He likes eating both fruits (especially berries) and vegetables but has a strong dislike towards anything spicy. also, he does not exercise much. Has a sweet tooth. Great fan of fried food. His RDA is about 2100 calories.

I am 14. and i exercise only once a week. I am a picky eater and i do not like vegetables, but i like fruits. I love fried food and pastries. My RDA is about 2300 calories.

Though my brother and I have a liking towards fried food, it is unhealthy and we should abstain from eating it. My brother and I get hungry often and would usually go to the kitchen to find food. It would be nice if we would have a pastry available.

Food pyramid:

My dish should have fruits and vegetables, and grains (if its a main course), and there should be less oil and sugar as it is at the top of the pyramid.

Ideas:
1. Pasta: cream sauce, penne
2. Pizza (Hawaii)
3. Blueberry cheesecake
4. Blueberry custard pastry
5. Brownie
6. Chocolate cupcakes
7. Chocolate mint cookies

Task Analysis

Your mum has requested that you help to prepare a simple nutritious dish (main course, accompaniment, dessert, snack etc.) for both your younger sister and you. She has given you $10 to purchase the ingredients at the neighbourhood supermarket. Plan your lunch menu, taking into account the given budget. Explain your choice of ingredients used and the dish you have decided to cook.

Key words: Simple, nutritious, younger sister and you, $10, supermarket

The dish should cost less than $10 and be found in a supermarket, which means that the ingredients should be easily obtainable yet cheap.
Younger sister and me-> 2 servings/ 1 to share (more plausible)
Simple and nutritious-> ingredients should be easily obtainable, nutritious would mean that i should try to use healthier products, and maybe include vegetables and fruits.

priorities
1. nutritious
2. cheap, obtainable
3. for 2 people
